Autumn

Autumn

As the high energy of summer and the wedding season begins to slow down, the evenings draw in and temperatures fall, we have the opportunity to regroup and enjoy all that Autumn has to offer.

There is so much contentment to be found in sitting with friends around an open fire under the stars, or rugging up with beanies and scarves and wandering through the forrest.  I really see Autumn as a time for calm, comfort and connection.

Being in Australia, we don't experience the significance of the classic four seasons, as say North America or Europe but the deciduous trees show the true colours of the season in amongst all the pines and gums and this year I had the absolute pleasure of celebrating the change of season at the Garden Gathered Workshop in the lower South West and experiencing the natural beauty of the seasons florals.

Hosted together with Jane from Ivy Flowers, Steph from Wallflower Studio, Abbey from Abbey Lou Flowers and Helen of Riverdale Farm on her stunning property, the Garden Gathered Workshop was a dream.

Helen and husband Jim Leighton have established a property on the Kalgan River in Albany that offers locally grown, seasonal blooms from their sustainably managed garden with a low carbon footprint.  Inspiration and admiration everywhere you turn!

There is something truly special in creating designs with florals that have been thoughtfully grown from the hands of beautiful people.  Coming together with other industry professionals and connecting face to face; sharing, laughing, creating and learning, this was equally as encouraging.  Not to mention the chance to refresh the true passion for floral design and the chance to create something for myself for a change.

Sincere thanks to you Helen, Jane, Steph and Abbey for a day that filled me in more ways than one!

The Year of Green

The Year of Green

Pantone's Colour of the Year for 2017... GREEN, in my eyes, was the breath of fresh air that the wedding industry needed.  A colour that's at the heart and soul of what we do... A colour full of life, freshness, growth and harmony.

Here's my behind-the-scenes highlight reel from the year in celebration of my favourite colour!

Whats in a name

Whats in a name

DE LA TERRE:  Pronounced du-lah-tair. Meaning 'of the earth' or 'from the land' in French.

Our name references an instinctive need for the natural environment around us and reminds us to come back to basics and reconnect.  It reflects a modest way and grounds us in what we believe.

We believe in living with purpose.  We believe in having eco-conscious roots and stepping lightly on the earth.  We love feeling small walking amongst the giants in a forest.  We believe places like this are worthy of protecting.  We believe that just as the beauty of nature is constant; so is God who made it.

We believe in the calm that wanders through a forest can bring, where the noise of a fast paced society quietens, and we remember whats important.  And, we feel honoured to create spaces that echo this, especially for a day as special as a someones wedding.

Treasure in the Woods

Treasure in the Woods

Venturing off the main route down a long and winding, narrow gravel road, theres a sense that you're about to come across something special.  We were deep in the forests of Pemberton and headed for the secluded Stonebarn, a venue nestled in the trees and overlooking a trufflerie and dam.

The tranquility and beauty of this setting is genuinely breathtaking.  It was no wonder that nature loving couple, Jenna and Nathan, chose Stonebarn to celebrate their love.

We worked closely alongside the beautiful bride Jenna whose elegant, paired back styling suited the surroundings perfectly.  Earthen ware crockery, gold cutlery, and belgian linen featured on the tables with our touch of greenery being the 20m of thick textural foliage garlands running the length of the tables.

Setting up for a wedding can come with feelings of urgency although, on this occasion, the setting of Stonebarn definitely brought a sense of calm as all the months of Jenna's planning unfolded beautifully.

Edith & Kenneth

Edith & Kenneth

It was the perfect day for Hong Kong couple, Edith and Kenneth, to venture out into the South West for their engagement shoot with Photographer, Gordon Becker.  Winter held on tight this year, but the sun came out and the region shined for a beautiful day of memory making.
